The Stress Definition, as we’re talking about it here is this: “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.”
YIKES!
What is not mentioned in the stress definition, however, is the negative effects of stress on our well-being.
Stress causes “wear and tear” on our bodies and our emotional state! It has physical and emotional effects and can, in some cases, create positive feelings, but all too often is a major source of negative feelings.
DOUBLE YIKES!
For example, as a positive influence, stress can help compel us to action; it can result in a new awareness and an exciting new perspective. As a negative influence, it can result in feelings of distrust, rejection, anger, and depression, which in turn can lead to health problems such as headaches, upset stomach, rashes, insomnia, ulcers, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke.
There is a lot to it. Many of us are experiencing the Stress Definition day in and day out and many of us continue to go about our days accepting a high level of stress, lashing out emotionally or simply knowing we just do not feel as well as we should. Positivity Toolbox wants to provide stress relief resources.
