We are constantly bombarded with images on TV, the internet, magazines and newspapers that supposedly depict “beautiful” and “perfect” people. This can make it difficult to feel okay about what you look like, but who’s to say what is beautiful or perfect?
After all, it’s generally considered that many of these beautiful and perfect people are way to too thin and nowadays, many photographs are digitally enhanced before we see them to mask flaws. So how can it be said that these people are beautiful and perfect? It’s just unrealistic!
If you don’t already know it, it’s incredibly important that you develop a positive attitude towards yourself and that you love yourself for the person that you are. You must understand that everyone is made differently, but beautifully, in their own way. Sure, your beauty may be different than that of a fashion model, but you’re still beautiful! Once you adopt this positive attitude towards yourself, you’ll soon find you become a happier person.
Develop a Positive Attitude Towards Yourself First
When you’re learning to adopt a positive attitude towards yourself and to love who you are inside and out, you need to start by reviewing the way you think about beauty.
No one’s absolutely perfect. Even the so-called ‘most beautiful of people’ have things about themselves that they don’t like, and this is probably true for just about everyone. There will probably always be something that you don’t particularly like about yourself, but it doesn’t negate your beauty, and it’s certainly no reason to have an unhappy life. Focus your positive attitude onto the things that you do like about yourself.
And try having a little faith in humanity. Do you really think everyone views you with a negative attitude? If you people watch in a public place, are you constantly pointing out everyone’s flaws? Chances are that you’re not. The likelihood is that you view everyone with a positive attitude. You probably don’t judge your friends about their imperfections, so why should you be so hard on yourself?
You’re Uniquely You
Once you’ve worked on your inner feelings and started moving towards a more positive attitude, you can then move on to using this new positive attitude to start loving yourself on the outside. Sadly, in today’s society, people have come to feel so ashamed of what they look like that it’s becoming commonplace to have all sorts of procedures and surgeries. Don’t be fooled! You don’t need to do this in order to develop a positive attitude about yourself!
You can attempt to make changes if you have a problem like acne or weight gain, but there are many things that you can’t change, like having wide hips or freckles. In this case the best thing you can do is switch on that positive attitude towards yourself and be proud of the unique individual that you are. After all, there is no one else on this planet quite like you.
You Can Make Small, Healthy Changes
No-one is suggesting that you shouldn’t make any changes to your appearance and within reason you can certainly do so. But you need to be doing it for the right reasons. If you are overweight, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to lose some in order to get back into a healthy weight range. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to change your hair color every now and then either. Variety is the spice of life!
But some people are tempted to go too far and do things like losing too much weight. They convince themselves that even a healthy weight is “fat” and they strive to be underweight. This is unhealthy and is whatever you might think, it is not adopting a positive attitude to yourself!
It’s important for your health to avoid these types of problems. If you’re stuck in a situation like this, you need to explore the reasons why you feel this way. You also might even want to discuss your concerns with a professional.
Passing On a Healthy Body Image
One thing you can do for the world is to help pass on a healthy body image to others. The way the media portrays beauty truly is outrageous, and everyone should be doing their part to promote health and beauty with a positive attitude and in an undistorted form.
If you have children, teach them the value of having a positive attitude towards themselves and let them understand that they’re beautiful just the way they are. Since children learn by example, ensure that you never put yourself down in front of them. Always try to adopt a positive attitude towards yourself and avoid complaining about your own body because they might overhear and you might inadvertently teach them something you never intended to teach.
Don’t just adopt that positive attitude towards yourself. You’ll make yourself and others feel better by complimenting your friends and family. Everyone likes to get a compliment every now and then. You just might make someone’s day!
